CPA Firm Guide

Wouldn’t it be great if there was a resource that helped unite eager job seekers with interested firms?  The Alabama Society of CPAs is creating such a tool.

For several years the Society has solicited firm profiles for Firm Resume Books provided to accounting departments and career placement offices at 20 colleges and universities.  In 2010 we are introducing an improved and expanded version of this tool called the Guide to Accounting Firms in Alabama.  Inclusion in the guide is open to all firms in Alabama and we invite you to list your company.

The Guide is a free resource for college students and young professionals who wish to actively identify and contact public accounting firms offering internships and entry-level positions.  The directory will also help firms gain heightened exposure to students and young professionals as they begin their careers.

The listing fee is $100; your firm will receive a full page in the guide. For $500 you can place a full page display ad opposite your firm listing page. Advertising opportunities are also available, see the advertising form enclosed.

Interested in participating? Contact Communications Coordinator Rachel Barwick at 800-227-1711 or rbarwick@ascpa.org

View the 2009 Guide as a pdf through the website’s student resource page, www.ascpa.org.

eagle Holiday Savings Tips

Looking to save time and money for the holidays?

The holiday rush can lead to a rush of money out of your accounts. Here are a few ways to keep your spending in check and still have a festive holiday season:

• Many stores offer one-day or weekend money-saving sales during the month. Plan to shop your favorite stores on these days.

• Don't be tempted to overspend on last minute purchases. Planning ahead could prevent night-before emergency shopping trips.

• Exchange favors as gifts or make handmade gifts such as baked goods and ornaments.

• Send e-cards. Savings could be significant depending on the length of your
mailing list.

• Pay with cash whenever possible. Interest charges accrued by not paying off your credit bill in January may offset any savings you received.

Remember to establish a budget and a shopping list before heading to stores. A little planning beforehand will help you keep your financial wits about you.

ASCPA Begins New Era in Advertising

If you don’t already get your on-line news from al.com, bookmark the site now.  Beginning today, all eleven chapters of the Alabama Society of CPAs will begin a statewide image campaign designed to direct the general public, both individuals and business owners, to the ASCPA’s website and its Free CPA Referral Service.  Firms who are not currently listed in the referral service can go to the website and add or edit information: http://www.ascpa.org/Content/38490.aspx.

The messages will be on the home page and business news pages of al.com and will emphasize end-of- year planning for the remainder of calendar 2009.  In January, the messages will center on tax preparation and planning.

Al.com will offer monthly analytics so that chapter officers can assess the effectiveness of individual ads and messages.  There will be a comprehensive re-evaluation of the campaign at the end of April , with the option to continue through the end of calendar 2010.  Al.com offers more than 400,000 individual impressions per month through the site.  The site is part of Advance Publications, the country’s largest privately-held media company, which owns the Huntsville Times, Mobile Press-Register and Birmingham News.
